Production & description

Jojoba oil (jojoba wax) native is obtained from the ripe seeds of Simmondsia chinensis (link) Schneid. (Buxaceae) by pressing without application of heat. It is produced by cold pressing process. Apart from intensive filtering, nothing is added to the production process.

Clear, light yellow to yellow, oily liquid; characteristic odor. Below 10 °C the substance solidifies to a slightly granular, soft mass. Insoluble in water and ethanol; miscible with ether, petroleum ether. Due to its structure (liquid wax from high molecular weight wax esters) jojoba oil is not suitable for consumption.

Gustav Heess

Gustav Heess has been working on the cultivation of jojoba in the Argentine Arauco desert for several decades. There, ideal conditions were found for the sustainable cultivation of jojoba. Embedded between two mountain ranges with high precipitation, there was sufficient groundwater available. The Argentinean desert is up to 50°C hot in summer and cools down to sometimes below 0°C in winter. These temperatures are necessary for an optimal development of the jojoba plant. A continuous watering of the plantations in the summer months is therefore essential. The season starts with flowering in August. The first fruit sets in November-December allow estimates for the harvest. The season ends with the harvest in March-April and meanwhile runs with the help of harvesters. Workers on the plantations are busy all year round raising new plantations and maintaining the plantations. In the meantime, more than 500 ha of jojoba are cultivated for us. Since the first plantations, we have maintained intensive contact with the growers throughout the season. Visits on site give us a picture of the expected harvest. After the harvest we determine the price of the seed together with the growers. The price depends on quality and available quantities. The price of the seed, the financing of the contracted quantities and the production costs in the oil mill ultimately determine our price for our jojoba oil. In 2015, the construction of the new oil mill was completed according to the latest standards. Together with a German plant manufacturer, the latest oil presses were developed especially for gentle processing of the jojoba seed. Thus, we guarantee the highest quality requirements according to international specifications and the DAC. Audits and quality controls on site complete our high standard.

Sustainability & responsibility

From the very beginning, the aim was to make the desert more fertile and thus create a sustainable basis for the livelihood of the population living there. The cultivation of jojoba bushes requires a long-term commitment of the farmers, as the plants only produce their first harvest after several years. This requires well-trained and experienced agricultural engineers, but also qualified farm workers. These are offered a long-term perspective in their home country. Thus, by careful handling of the available resources and the commitment of the employees, it is possible to produce an exceptional raw material - and this in the long term.
